Working Bee Saturday 13th September
A small group of FOTP gathered for the monthly working bee in Taylor Park on Saturday 13th September. We spent the morning placing mulch around recently planted grasses in preparation for the approaching dry hot Summer.
Working Bee Saturday 12th July
This month Friends of Taylor Park spent the morning planting 100 native grasses and 5 Bellarine Yellow Gums in the park. The grasses had been raised from seed collected in the park. Bellarine Yellow Gums are an endangered species indigenous to the area so it was fantastic to be able to plant them in the park.
Working Bee Saturday 14th June
Friends of Taylor Park gathered in the nature reserve again on a fine but chilly Saturday June morning to hold another working bee. Our numbers were reduced this month as many of the regulars had departed for warmer climes. However we concentrated on removing ivy from the bank of the creek downstream of the Duck Pond and then we turned our attention to cutting out interstate hybrid Wattle trees.
Working Bee Saturday 12th April
Friends of Taylor Park gathered in the nature reserve again on Saturday 12 April to hold another working bee. This month we concentrated on covering informal tracks with recently felled dead wattles. The removal of the dead standing wattles improved the appearance of the reserve and placing the felled wattles along the informal tracks will hopefully encourage natural revegetation and prevent soil being washed out during heavy rain events.
Welcome Rain Fills the Duck Pond
After a very dry Summer in Torquay it was a relief to hear the sound of rain again as 18mm rain fell on the 20th March. Before the rain the Duck Pond was completely empty of water and the ducks and Torquay's children were bereft.
However at least the Friends of Taylor Park were able to get in and clean the pond out.
What a difference some rain makes to the pond. And the vegetation received a good drink too.
Working Bee Saturday 8th February
Friends of Taylor Park held their first Saturday morning working bee for the year on 8th February. This followed our very successful midweek corporate working bee the previous Wednesday. We began by removing more weeds from the creek line downstream of the duck pond. We then turned our attention to watering recently planted grasses and shrubs in the South East quarter of the park.
S&C Electric Asia Pacific P/L Working Bee 5th February
AFriends of Taylor Park were delighted to have S&C Electric Asia Pacific P/L personnel join us for a working bee on Wednesday 5th February.
The group of 25 from S&C, together with 3 GORCAPA supervisors and 8 FOTP members spent the morning in Taylor Park watering plants and removing guards from now well established plants.
After lunch we all regrouped near the Salty Dog Cafe at Fishermans Beach, where we removed Marram Grass from the sand dunes, to allow Native Spinifex to take over.
It was fantastic to have this corporate group help us in the Park and at Fishos. We were able to get so much more done with their help.
And we all had a great time too.
FOTP Hold Planning Meeting
A group of FOTP met at the Gilbert Street Wine Bar on 11th of December to plan next year's program. The group discussed a wide range of ideas besides our usual monthly Saturday morning working bees. We are looking forward to putting these ideas into practice next year.
